Wallpaper* magazine’s first-ever issue spotlighting Shenzhen features our recently completed project, King & Wood Mallesons (KWM). The firm’s Shenzhen office is also home to the highly strategic KWM International Center which follows the national development strategy in the Greater Bay Area and provides a center to better serve clients’ needs as they explore opportunities in the region. As one of the most innovative law firms globally, KWM aims for its Shenzhen office to explore new and meaningful ways of working to maximize the wellbeing of their staff and efficiency. The resulting design takes full advantage of the office’s unique circular layout which provides 360-degree panoramic water views. The flowing lines on the ceiling and the blue, green, and sand tones on the floor harmonize and evoke the outdoor environs’ blue and green sea transitioning to the sandy beaches.

Leaders of design firms from multiple continents engaged in inspiring, in-depth conversations and workshops, facilitated by Harvard Business School professor Boris Groysberg, on building and leading great teams, change, and culture.

Our three offices came up with pragmatic solutions after dynamic and rich workshops this week. The topic was on Moving from Presentation to Conversation (from Transactional mode to Learning mode). Colleagues wrote “when we care, when we not only use head but heart, when we have genuine respect and interest for each other, we are able to connect, moving our presentations naturally into conversations, from working in a transactional mode to being in a learning mode.”
